Shortly after clearing out the Dourstone Mine a whole new host of issues has presented itself to our heroes. First, Durgha and his goons are giving them the stink-eye all over town. Second, one of the laborers renovating the Observatory is feeding information to Merrovin Bask. Finally, all their leads on the worms, the unkillable zombies, and the Ebon Triad have gone cold.
But then Delaron brings news of a letter from his friend at Blackwall Keep. Marzena, the sorceress stationed there, has found evidence of green worms much like those the heroes found in Filge’s lab. The heroes travel with Delaron out to Blackwall Keep to investigate. Upon reaching the keep, they find it surrounded by hostile Twisted Branch Tribe Lizardfolk. The heroes break the siege and recapture the keep. They learn Marzena has been captured and set out to rescue her, accompanied by 4 Lizardfolk prisoners.
The Maze Canyons are brutal and the heroes have some close calls, including encounters with ghouls, rattlesnakes and giant tarantulas. They reach the lair though, and as they begin to storm it they are aided by Hishka, the tribe’s high shaman. He explains that the king Shukak is involved with a Blue Dragon called Ilthane. The king has barred Hishka from entering the egg chamber and Hishka believes the king is bad news. 2 years ago the last clutch of eggs was lost by some terrible magic that was blamed on a wizard from Qalachi.
The heroes killed King Shukak (who had been magically enhanced with some blue-dragon strength) and found the egg clutch. They killed the draconic kobolds guarding the eggs. There was a black dragon egg in the clutch, and after a long debate the heroes decided to destroy it. When they did, hundreds of green worms spilled out. They infected the lizardfolk eggs and those young lizardfolk burst forth, worms falling from their eyes. Illyon & scruffin burned them, and the party left back for Blackwall Keep.
When they returned they found chaos at the keep. 3 guards had been turned to “Wormspawn” much like the lizardfolk eggs. The heroes defeated the monstrosities but not before a worm almost infected Kraldar (he extracted it with a dagger). When Delaron returned with reinforcements, the heroes left for Koshepa. They were glad to be rid of these strange worms but worried about what this new threat could mean.
