The party went forth into the wilderness, crossing the Cairn Hills with the help of a local from Rimrunner Guides. They had a few hiccups along the way as they tried on their new adventuring shoes but the reached the road between Qalachi and Peacegate in one piece.
And none to soon. A few hours after setting up an ambush the caravan carrying the Mysterious Rod approached. The heroes fired a volley then charged down to attack. Their initial attack stunned the caravan, but it’s captain quickly regrouped and the fight was fierce. Meanwhile, the horses ran off down the road with the wagon in tow holding the Rod.
The Captain, seeing his quarry getting away from him, ran down to the wagon, got it back on the road and took off toward peacegate, leaving his men behind at the hands of the Heros. They jumped on horseback and took off after the wagon. They tried everything they could to stop it; riding in front of the wagon, firing arrows or slicing at the Captain—Illyon even tried to kill the horses pulling the wagon—before Scruffin pulled it by sticking a bit of wood in the wheel spokes, overturning the wagon. It was then a fierce fight with the captain before he was slain and the rod was recovered.
The party returned through the Cairn Hills and there they stumbled upon Skyler Bronzespeare, another adventurer and moderate dickhead with whom and Illyon grew up. Skyler now lived with his rich daddy in Qalachi but it seems he returned to Koshepa for one reason or another. He had with him an elven archer, a rogue and a balding wizard, neither of whom the party recognized.
They made it back home and returned the Rod to Delaron. He was very greatful and told Illyon he would let him know when a spot opened up at the academy. He also told Scruffin he would send his acolyte to look for her cat.
A few short days later, Koshepa was attacked by Lizardfolk. Always in the right place at the right time, the heroes joined the fray. They successfully beat back the Lizardfolk but not before many garrison soldiers were killed and some townsfolk taken hostage. They killed the Lizardfolk leader Bladefist, and Amadi gained some fame as Bladefist’s killer(though he denies it and gives the whole group credit). Amadi had been told to watch his back in the wilderness because Bladefist had a sorcerer brother and Lizardfolk can be notoriously vengeful.
While the garrison was busy locating who was responsible for allowing the lizardfolk to get so close, the heroes went in search of the hostages. They followed tracks south on the road to Bloodweep until the tracks cut west up a slot canyon. There they met Pamuy, a local woman who took it upon herself to guard this canyon, known to be a shortcut to a trail that leads to Greysmere.
Pamuy and her crew joined forces with the heroes and together they raided the lizardfolk outpost, killing dozens of lizardfolk and freeing some hostage. The heroes returned home with the hostages and were reluctantly awarded a medal of courage by the Par-Chieftan
